Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation
Hard at Work
Dancing for the Stars held this year in January 2011 raised over $16,000.00 to support the foundations $1 Million Dollar Cardiac Monitoring System Campaign. The funds will facilitate the pruchase of a new Cardiac Monitoring System for the Intensive Care Unit at the Hospital. The event is one of the Signature Fundraising Events for the Foundation and is the fourth Annual Event of its kind in the series. Six amateur dancers paired with 6 Professional Dancers from Toronto and gave quite a perfomance for those in attendance. Each couple learned 2 ballroom dances ranging from the Fox Trot to the Cha Cha, through the Rythymn of The Night Dance Studio. Two of the amateur dancers were community volunteers and the others were staff member of the Chatham-Kent Heath Alliance. Dr. Jennifer MacKinnon and her Professional Partner, Daniel Studenny were named Dancing of the Stars Champions and were awarded First prize. Dr. Ian Mac Lean and his Professional Partner Sarah Maude- Thibideau also received high praise being named People's Choice Winners of the night. The Foundation strives to make the Event bigger and better each year and their efforts were well rewarded taking the Campaign one step closer to reaching their one Million Dollar Goal.
Another popular Fundraiser for the Chatham-Kent Heath Alliance is the Annual Parade of Chefs which was held this year on Thursday April 7/2011. This was the 9th in the series and an event well worth attending as many people can attest to. This year Lynn Crawford of Food Network Canada's Pitchin' In and Restaurant Makeover was the guest chef and emcee for the evening. Chef Crawford brought 28 years of experience with her.She has travelled extensively in the U.S. and Canada and worked with world renown chefs in many locations. The evening was a real delight to the Culinary Novice as well as the Conissiour. Chef Crawford as emcee for the evening talked about each creation as it was served and discussed the accompanying wines.
The Seven Course Meal was prepared by local chefs from Brownie`s Catering, Chilled Cork Food Emporium and Wine Bar, Harvest Moon Catering, Mamma Maria`s Restorante, Rossini`s Restaurant, The Black Sheep Pub and Bistro Restaurant and Tru's Grillhouse Restaurant. Chef Crawford discussed the various courses with the chefs as the evening proessed.
Each Course was accompanied with Wines from Local Wineries including Aleksander Estate Winery, Pelee Island Winery and Vineyards Inc., Smith &Wilson Estate Wines and Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery as well as, new this year, Beer from the Railway City Brewing Company. The wine servers were Physicians and Staff from hospital. Tickets were $100.00 each and I will keep you updated on my Blog www.chatham-kentrealestateblog.com or on my posted blog on this website www.wayneliddy.com as to the date of next year's event usually held in May.
This year's Parade Of Chefs had 350 in attendance and was a sold out event. $30,000.00 was raised and will go toward the $1 million cardiac monitoring system campaign.
In the interim, why not check out the various Chatham-Kent Restuarants and their in-house chefs mentioned above and try some of the wines from the participating Wineries and the beer from The Railway City Brewing Company.
Chatham-Kent's Motto is IT IS ALL HERE ALL YEAR!
