Victor Boutin Of Everlast Group Ltd. out of Brampton, Ontario has received the go ahead from City Council for his proposed 45 Million Dollar Hotel/ Condo Development `Boardwalk on the Thames`` in Historic Downtown Chatham on the banks of the Thames River. There has been major restoration of buildings in the core of the city but this will be the first new construction in 30 years. The proposed development will be located in the heart of the city. Buildings have been removed from the site and soil samples are being taken. In a news conference held May 12/2011 Mr Boutin announced that he has to overcome a logistics issue before beginning construction. He is currently working with his engineers but they will have to dig deeper than expected to reach the bedrock, approximately 85 feet. He assured everyone present that the project will move ahead and he hoped construction would begin in June.  No date has been announced for the completion of the project. The proposed Development is to be a 9 story structure. The main street level is to be Retail Space, the Hotel on the 2nd and 3rd levels with underground parking. Mr Boutin said a restaurant is planned but would not disclose the name. The top floors will be 64, 1-3 bedroom Waterfront Condos overlooking beautiful Tecumseh Park to the east and to the west, the City Docks and the beautiful Waterfront park across the River on Thames St.

Mr Boutin has invested in other properties in Chatham -Kent. He has purchased the existing YMCA on King St. West and has announced the proposed construction of additional Waterfront Condo's since this site also sits on the banks of the Thames River. His offices are proposed to be at the site of the former Park St. United Church which his Company has also purchased. Mr. Boutin is quoted as saying  Chatham is in for some great times.

Those of us who live here and know the benefits of Chatham-Kent first hand agree whole heartedly. Our Motto is `IT IS ALL HERE ALL YEAR!`

The new proposed Condo Development as well as the condos at the YMCA site are walking distance to Historic Downtown Chatham with it`s unique shops and restaurants, the newly renovated Capital Theatre with its top notch entertainment  and Tecumseh Park, home of many events such as the  weekly Wednesday night Concerts at the bandshell and special yearly events such as the Ribfest and Retrofest activities.

Update August 15/2011 City council approved a proposal from Developer Victor Boutin of Everlast Group to add 3 storeys to the $45 million dollar Hotel/Condominium project in Downtown Chatham. The original design remained unchanged but the additional 3 storeys means a total of 92 residential condo units instead of the 64 origionally planned. The report stated that the scale of the project was increased to accommodate the future needs for Chatham development.

Update SEPT/2011  Changes for Boardwalk Hotel/ Condo Development

Another development has come forth in the proposed $45 Million Hotel/Condominium project " Boardwalk" on King St. in Historic Downtown Chatham. Mr Victor Boutin of Everlast Group has announced that plans are not finalized as of yet but it looks like the Hotel portion of the development will be moved to the corner of Wellington and Fourth St. where the former Chatham Daily News and Duff Buildings were located. The 2 Level Hotel will include nine floors of Office Space as well as a restaurant overlooking the downtown. There was some concern with drop off and pick up for the Hotel at the originally scheduled site on King St. This issue as well as the issue of the high water table and possible flooding along the Thames River are solved with this proposed change. The original parking garage was slated for underground on the King St. site and has now been moved to above the retail space along the main street. Mr. Boutin said this change will allow for great privacy for the Condominium Owners and also allow Hotel Guests a better view of Historic Downtown Chatham.

Mr Boutin said there were additional plans in the works for a project on the former YMCA site along the Thames River. An announcement will come later.
